Household Carbon Footprint
A few questions about your home, your travelling, what you eat and what you buy. It takes about four minutes, and you can answer “I don’t know” to anything — we fall back to a UK average and tell you which figures we estimated.
What we ask about
Home energy
Gas, electricity and whatever else heats the house.
Travel
Cars, buses, trains and flights.
Food and diet
What you eat, and what gets thrown away.
Goods and services
Clothes, electronics, furnishings and leisure spending.
How the figure is built
This is a consumption-based footprint: it counts the emissions of everything you use, wherever in the world they happened, including imported goods. That is the larger of the two figures usually quoted for a UK resident. The smaller one counts only emissions inside the UK’s borders.
Every number traces to a published factor with a source and a year. Nothing is estimated without saying so.
Nothing is stored and nothing is sent anywhere. Your answers stay in this browser tab. At the end you can choose to keep your figures on this browser, so they are still here next time.
